Skin analysis and scar mapping
We look at which scar types you actually have, since boxcar, rolling and icepick scars respond differently, and confirm there are no contraindications.
Cleanse and degrease
Makeup is removed and the skin is cleansed and degreased so the cartridge glides cleanly.
Medical-grade disinfection
The treatment area is disinfected with medical-grade antiseptic before anything touches the skin.
Topical numbing
Numbing cream is applied and given time to absorb, then removed completely. Scar depth work makes this step standard rather than optional.
Multi-pass needling
Sterile single-use cartridges at 1.0 to 2.0 mm, in vertical, horizontal and diagonal passes, adjusted to your skin thickness and comfort.
Serum and recovery
A professional serum such as hyaluronic acid, PDRN or exosomes may be applied where appropriate, followed by your aftercare plan.
Questions we hear
How many sessions do acne scars need?
Scarring is a course, not a single visit. Most clients are planned for a series spaced several weeks apart so collagen has time to rebuild between sessions. Your practitioner gives you a realistic number at consultation after seeing the scar types.
Does microneedling work on icepick scars?
Icepick scars are the narrowest and deepest, and they respond less predictably than rolling or boxcar scars. We will tell you at consultation if we expect a meaningful change, and if another approach would suit you better.
Can I be treated while I still have active acne?
No. Active breakouts are a contraindication in our protocol, because needling across active lesions risks spreading bacteria. We treat once the skin is clear.
What is the downtime?
Expect redness that settles within a day or two, then light flaking as the surface layer turns over. Scar-depth work sits at the stronger end of the range, so plan the appointment with that in mind.
Do I need to stop retinol first?
Yes. Retinol, retinoids, AHA and BHA exfoliants, glycolic and salicylic acid, chemical peels and waxing should stop 5 to 7 days before your appointment.
