What PRP and PRF actually are
Both start the same way: a small draw of your own blood, spun in a centrifuge to separate and concentrate the platelets and the growth factors they carry. That concentrate is then delivered back into the skin or scalp, either through micro-channels created with a microneedling pen or by targeted injection.
Nothing synthetic is introduced. The material is yours, prepared on site, which is the reason adverse reactions are rare compared with treatments that introduce a foreign substance.
The difference between the two
PRP — platelet-rich plasma — is spun with an anticoagulant at a higher speed. It releases its growth factors quickly, and it is the more established of the two.
PRF — platelet-rich fibrin — is spun more gently and without anticoagulant, which leaves a fibrin scaffold intact. That scaffold holds the platelets and releases growth factors slowly over several days rather than all at once. It is the newer preparation.
Neither is simply better. PRP acts faster; PRF acts longer. Which suits you depends on what is being treated, and it is a consultation question rather than something to decide in advance.
What it is used for
Skin rejuvenation
Under-eye crepiness, dullness and post-acne texture are the most common reasons clients book. Growth factors delivered into the skin support the collagen rebuilding that follows microneedling, which is why the two are frequently combined in one appointment.
Thinning hair
Injected into the scalp, the growth factors can strengthen follicles that are still active and support density. It is worth being clear about the limit: this supports hair you still have. It does not regrow hair from follicles that are no longer viable, and anyone telling you otherwise is overselling.
Alongside microneedling
PRP is often used as the serum delivered through microneedling channels rather than as a standalone injection. If you are already booked for a course of microneedling for scarring, this is the usual way it is added.
What a session involves
1. Consultation and suitability
We confirm the goal, check you are well hydrated, and screen for anything that rules out a blood draw.
2. The blood draw
A small sample is taken in the treatment room, exactly as at a routine lab test.
3. Preparation
The sample spins for several minutes to concentrate the platelets. For PRF the spin is gentler, to keep the fibrin matrix intact.
4. Prep and numbing
While the plasma is being prepared, the treatment area is cleansed and numbed.
5. Delivery
Your PRP or PRF is delivered through microneedling channels or by targeted injection, placing the growth factors where the skin or scalp is rebuilding.
6. Aftercare and the course
Mild redness settles within a day. Results build over two to four weeks, and most goals take a course of about three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart.
When PRP is not the right treatment
There are firm contraindications here, and they are worth reading before you book.
Blood disorders and blood thinners. Certain clotting disorders and anticoagulant medication rule the treatment out. We screen for this at consultation, and it is not something we work around.
Active infection in the treatment area. This needs to resolve first.
Complete hair loss in an area. PRP supports follicles that are still active. Where follicles are no longer viable, it will not bring hair back.
Expecting a single session to do it. This is a course treatment. One session does not deliver the result, and the honest plan is three sessions before judging the outcome.

What is the difference between PRP and PRF?
PRF is spun more gently and without anticoagulant, so it keeps a fibrin scaffold that releases growth factors slowly over several days. PRP acts faster. Which one suits you depends on the goal, and your technician will recommend one at consultation.
Is it safe?
The treatment uses your own blood, drawn and prepared during the same visit with sterile, single-use equipment. That is why reactions are rare — there is no foreign material being introduced.
When will I see results?
An early improvement in glow and texture appears within two to four weeks as collagen rebuilds. The fuller result follows a course of about three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart.
Does it hurt?
The blood draw feels like any routine lab test. Numbing cream is applied before delivery, so most clients report mild pressure rather than pain.
Can PRP help thinning hair?
Injected into the scalp, the growth factors in PRP can strengthen existing follicles and support density. It works best as a course followed by maintenance, and it supports follicles that are still active rather than regrowing hair where none remains.
What is the downtime?
Mild redness or slight swelling for a day, and occasionally light bruising at injection points. Most people return to normal activities the same or the next day.
Who is not a candidate?
PRP is not suitable if you have certain blood disorders, are taking blood thinners, or have an active infection in the treatment area. We screen for all of this at consultation, and we will tell you if it rules the treatment out.
